Colin’s Review Guide to Modern Music
Music has existed for as long as humans have walked the Earth, which makes it a 1-million-year-old art form. Unfortunately, musical instruments as we know them today didn’t arise until roughly 3,000 years ago. Likewise, the earliest songs weren’t written down until the 2nd century A.D. Traditional musical notation didn’t even gain traction until Medieval times.
This means we only have access to approximately 0.0007% of all music ever created … and that’s probably a generous estimate. Luckily, that tiny smidgeon encompasses some of the greatest achievements in human history. From Bach to The Beatles to Big Thief, the last 1,000 years has given us enough great music to last an eternity.
