Artist: Frank Sinatra
Year: 1956
Genre: Swing
Grade: A
In contrast to the sad, torch songs of In the Wee Small Hours, Songs for Swingin’ Lovers is bright and sunny. Instead of the sad, lonely and drunk Sinatra, this is the happy, horny and buzzed Sinatra, chasing high-class romance all the way to Monterey and back. We’re just glad to be along for the ride.
Frank’s voice never resounded with more confidence than it does here, and it is his immense swagger that really makes this album swing. But it would be a cardinal sin not to mention how important Nelson Riddle’s arrangements are to this record’s immense warmth and staying power.
