The Red Garland Trio consists of Garland on piano, Paul Chambers on bass and the indelible Art Taylor on drums. When combined with the young John Coltrane, the ensemble becomes a quartet to be reckoned with.

Nevertheless, this is still a young John Coltrane. He had not yet mastered his craft. As with the majority of his early LPs (even the seminal Blue Train), this is nothing more than “good hard bop played by great musicians.”
