Soul Brothers

ArtistRay Charles & Milt Jackson

Year1958

Genre: Soul Jazz

Grade: A-

Charles’ soulful piano playing is just as important to his songs as his passionate voice. But we often forget just how good of a piano player he truly was. On this instrumental 1958 LP, Charles is paired up with vibraphonist Milt Jackson for a lively recording that highlights their virtuoso abilities. Joining the title pair are session all-stars Kenny Burrell and Oscar Pettiford. The end result is one of Charles’ strongest statements as a jazzman.
