Colin’s Review Grading System

Colin’s Review Grading System

Explaining the Colin’s Review Letter Grade System

At Colin’s Review, music, movies, books, TV shows, etc. are reviewed on a letter-grading scale. I try to keep consistency across all genres, eras and artistic mediums, and so the following Grading System explanation can be used as a guide to quickly discern how something is ranked.

  • A+ = Perfect Masterpiece

An A+ grade isn’t given lightly. This designates a masterpiece; as close to perfect as you can get; an enduring triumph that will stand the test of time; the best of the best.

  • A = Great

An A is an amazing work of art; a well-respected classic offering endless value; a brilliant accomplishment.

  • A- = Good

An A- is completely worth your while; top-tier artistry that will satisfy devoted fans and create new ones.

  • B+ = Pretty Good

A B+ is good overall; solid; pretty close to being great but certainly could be better.

  • B = Average

A grade of B means middle-of-the-pack; both good and bad; equal in its pros and its cons; neither here nor there.

  • B- = Mediocre

A grade of B- means closer to bad than good; second-rate at best; a few redeeming qualities but close to a failure.

  • C+ = Poor

A C+ is inferior and lacking in quality; substandard and limited in value; ultimately not worth your time.

  • C = Bad

A C is a blunder with very few redeeming elements; a work filled with gaffes, mistakes and slip-ups; boring and substandard all around.

  • C- = Very Bad

A C- is worse than bad; it’s embarrassingly bad. Questionable at every turn and containing artistic choices that are quite hard to fathom.

  • D+/D/D- = Awful

A grade in the range of D is terrible beyond belief; dreadful in its very existence; an insult to audiences Simply put, a D+ is awful; a D is godawful; and a D- is f***ing godawful.

  • F = Worst of the Worst

An F is the exact opposite of a perfect masterpiece; among the most heinous artistic creations to ever exist; an abomination to art itself.
