Artie Shaw

Artie Shaw – Biography

Artie Shaw (full name: Arthur Arshawsky) was born in New York City in 1910. An accomplished clarinetist, his career coincided with jazz music’s huge popularity in the 1930s. As a result of this, and on the backing of huge hits like “Begin the Beguine” and “Frenesi,” Shaw became one of the Swing era’s biggest stars. The charismatic bandleader was an intellectual introvert who never liked to stay in one place for too long, which is why his discography is so varied (and why he was married eight times).
